February is Career and Technical Education month across the nation.
Governor Kay Ivey signed a proclamation declaring February Career and Technical Education month for Alabama. See the proclamation by clicking HERE.
The Academy of Craft Training is a public/private partnership between the construction industry and the State of Alabama’s K-12 education system.
Students have the opportunity to learn directly from construction industry professionals in a workplace-style environment, work as interns with local construction companies and receive job offers upon graduation. High school juniors and seniors, as well as graduates, are encouraged to apply.

Manufacturing students at Chickasaw High School in Chickasaw, Alabama are making a difference while they learn through an after-school club called “Lifechangers”. The students are participating in a Prosthetic Project where they are using 3D printers to make prosthetics for amputees in underdeveloped countries. Modern prosthetics cost between $10,000 and $60,000 making them unattainable for the majority of the amputees in developing nations. The program is enabling amputees to receive affordable, life-changing prosthetics. So far, the students have built 9 prosthetic legs which have been sent to amputees in Honduras.
